Remembering Janissa Delacruz

Janissa Delacruz "was really that kind of person who was always there for anyone," her brother, Angel Delacruz, said. But mostly, she was a devoted mother who did everything for her 6-year-old son.

Delacruz, 31, died on April 6 from COVID-19, according to her family and her employer, Montefiore Nyack Hospital.

Delacruz worked as a clerical coordinator at Montefiore Nyack Hospital’s Pre-Natal Center, located on High Street, a couple of blocks from the hospital's main campus. She offered support for patients and helped with Spanish translations.

This was the first COVID-related death among hospital staff, according to Montefiore Nyack.
