Remembering David Ford

Age 59, DeWitt Township, Mich.
Passed away on April 21, 2020

Ford is survived by his wife, Cassandra, and many children, nieces and nephews.

He was a "gentle giant" with a booming voice, said the Rev. Melvin T. Jones, senior pastor at Union Missionary Baptist Church of Lansing.

"He preached with a lot of strength and voice and sweat," Jones said. "He had one of those singing voices that made you shiver on the inside."

Peers described Ford as a generous and unpretentious leader.

When a young man died years ago, Maxwell's congregation didn't have a fellowship hall big enough to accommodate a crowd for the homegoing service.

Ford let Maxwell use facilities at the Friendship House of Prayer Baptist Church. It was a hot summer day and Ford kept busy waiting tables and handing out fans to the crowd.

"He didn't send someone out to do it, he did it." Maxwell said. "He did not sit in the ivory tower of the pulpit."
